Yoga to the People (YTTP) is a unique yoga studio with the goal of recapturing what it considers to be the essence of yoga: yoga made available to everyone. The beauty of yoga should be celebrated, and the venue for where it is practiced is just as important as the art itself. When designing the new studio, Architect and Interior Designer Janet Drake had to look at the project holistically and not consider the studio and amenities as separate projects. “People tend to spend as much time in the shower and locker rooms as they do in the studio,” said Drake. “The walls and floors for these areas require the same attention to detail as any other part of the studio.”

Crossville tile was chosen too for the walls and floors because of its array of beautiful aesthetic designs, commercial quality made in America, and short lead times. “I first looked for beautiful porcelain tile for the project and presented the client with several brands to choose from. When she found out Crossville is made in America, it sealed the deal,” said Drake.

Three of Crossville porcelain tile collections were used in the locker, shower and toilet rooms: Retro Active for the walls, Cross-Colors Solids and Cross-Tread for the toilet and shower room floors.

Retro Active is the epitome of sleek sophistication, and ideal for minimalist design. Installed on the walls in Ebony and Empress White, the elegant contrast gave the area a classic, yet contemporary ambiance.

Cross-Colors Solids for the bathroom floor easily harmonized well with the Retro Active walls. For greater slip resistance, the Cross Tread feature was added for the shower floors. This selection boasts complementary color and the highest safety.

The new yoga studio has more then doubled its clientele since it opened its doors in 2011. The art of yoga, coupled with the amenities of the YTTP, keeps people coming back for more.
