2017 marks our 15th year to be a part of IIDA South Florida’s annual Design Mix event. Design Mix is a fashion show like no other; interior design firms are invited to design and create one-of-a-kind garments constructed of sponsors’ building and design products. There’s no doubt the talented design teams really have to think outside the box to imagine, design, and fabricate these extraordinary garments from extraordinary materials. All the hard work pays off at the gala event when the models strut the runway in their unique attire and winners are announced. But win or lose, everyone has a good time, and IIDA South Florida raises funds to support the chapter’s education and charitable initiatives.
The theme for Design Mix 2017 was “An Evening of 1920’s Elegance.” Influenced by the Art Deco designs of the times and the Roaring Twenties spirit associated with breaking traditions, 1920s fashions for both men and women were transformed in this time period. The 1920s was considered the decade in which fashion truly entered the modern era, and the style continues to inspire the world’s most elegant fashions. This year’s Design Mix was no exception. We partnered with D&B Tile and Tillberg Design & Associates to sponsor a 1920s themed garment for the event, and the design team knocked it out of the park with a Roaring Twenties frock worthy of any Jazz Age flapper! The garment, crafted with a mix of Crossville’s Laminam porcelain tile panels and Brillante Glass Mosaics, won Best Use of Challenging Material! Here’s a look at our supermodel Annie Llerena (D&B Tile) strutting the runway in the award-winning creation.
With everyone dressed the part and enjoying the show, Design Mix 2017 was an evening of elegance to remember!
