The second annual Design and Construction Week in Vegas is currently in full swing and is bigger and better than ever in 2015, merging five events for a combined total of 3,750 exhibitors and more than 4.7 million net square feet of exhibits. While we are exhibiting at the Surfaces Expo, which begins today (more on that soon!), we’re also taking in, along with many of our colleagues and industry partners, the exhibits and events at the International Builders Show and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show. It’s a power-packed week, with the shows occurring simultaneously to showcase a seemingly endless array of products and trends in design and building products (see our Pinterest board for highlights!). Here’s a look at the happenings and trends we’re seeing at KBIS & IBS 2015.
We’re impressed with the technology we’re seeing at KBIS & IBS 2015. Technology is no longer an afterthought or something to add later; it is more and more being incorporated into the space design of residential and commercial construction and renovations. Here are some tech favorites we discovered at the Vegas events.
The TechTop by LG Hausys won KBIS’s Best of Show. This is an innovative solution that embeds wireless charging technology into surface material. Charge your phone on any surface imaginable without tangling cables or hunting for outlets. Simply place the phone on the charging station embedded in HI-MACS® solid surface or Viatera® quartz surface and enjoy the benefits of wireless charging.
TopBrewer, by Scanonmat, is not just a coffee machine. The sleek stainless steel design is stunning and is designed to be built into any tabletop. With a simple touch of your smartphone or tablet the TopBrewer brews your favourite coffee drink. What’s more, the TopBrewer cleans all hoses with water after each cup. In addition to coffee drinks, the TopBrewer provides chilled drinking water, cold milk, hot water for tea – and steam (for the blanching of vegetables for instance). Kevo, by Kwikset is “the key evolved.” Available on Apple iOS and select Android 5.0, Lollipop devices, this eKey moves your physical key into the digital world to significantly improve your home access experience. Unlimited guest keys, which you can send to anyone, anywhere, anytime, are free. InSinkErator launched a new product category, the All-in-One kitchen tap, at KBIS2015. The 3N1 model of the All-in-One tap is the first of its kind in the North American market. The 3N1 provides the convenience of near-boiling water on demand from the same faucet that delivers both cool and hot tap water.
Metallics and shocks of sparkle are definitely a trend at KBIS 2015. We’re seeing gold finishes on fixtures and hardware and stone surfaces mixed with sparkly metallic details. This quartz countertop from Cambria‘s new Coastal collection is sprinkled throughout with metallic flecks for just the right amount of sophisticated sparkle.
Last year, gold and brass tones turned heads as new options. Now–in 2015, these finishes, typically in sophisticated, muted tones, are staples. Here are some products that represent the look beautifully.
Metallic details abound at KBIS 2015. Our Sideview glass mosaic tiles with metallic detail are but one example of the metallic touches we’re seeing everywhere in Vegas this week.
Gray became the new beige a little while back, but it’s still solidly present and probably will be for some time because it is such a versatile neutral, working beautifully with all decorating styles and in all settings from traditional spaces with dark woods and classic elements to ultra modern spaces with sleek stainless steel, glass and lucite. Beautiful kitchen cabinetry in gray tones are making a strong statement at KBIS 2015:
Though Crossville isn’t exhibiting with our own booth at the shows, we are present and beautifully accounted for at the TOTO USA booth. These vignettes help share our products with large audiences that include influential designers and specifiers. And we love what the booth creator has done with our products.
